NIMFY, Anyone? Not In My Front Yard, they've dubbed it. For the past week, Britain's Daily Mail newspaper has led a campaign against what it calls "wheelie bin blight."

"The rise of recycling means some householders have five bins parked in their front gardens or on the pavements in front of their homes," the newspaper reports. "The campaigners say they are not against recycling, but they believe people should be given a choice whether to have a wheelie bin."

The protests have reached such a crescendo that Prime Minister Gordon Brown has seen fit to weigh in -- or pass the buck, depending how you look at it.

"That really is a matter for local authorities," Brown said. "We have very tough recycling targets to meet. It is very clear that there are a wide range of opinions on how we should tackle that waste. Inevitably, of course, there will be compromises. But this must be done sensibly and it must take into account the views of local people."

Cap-and-Trade Barbs: The Washington Post reports today that in a poll of 1,000 randomly sampled Americans, three-quarters said they think the federal government should regulate greenhouse gas emissions from power plants, cars and factories. But a substantially smaller number, 52%, said they support the cap-and-trade approach as the way to go about it.

And in an editorial, the Wall Street Journal blasts the House's cap-and-trade bill, saying the Democrats "will have to destroy the discipline of economics to get it done."

The WSJ editors go so far as to glancingly evoke the Bataan Death March, noting that Speaker Nancy Pelosi "has put cap-and-trade legislation on a forced march through the House."
